HARRISBURG – Rep. Charity Grimm Krupa (R-Fayette) issued the following statement after her “no” vote on
House Bill 2370:
“I want the entire 51st Legislative District to know that my vote against House Bill 2370 was not a vote against education. It was a vote to protect our taxpayers from throwing more of their hard-earned money at a problem that has had money thrown at it for years without any positive change.
“A ruling by Commonwealth Court found Pennsylvania’s school funding system is unconstitutional. This bill does nothing to address that. In fact, it doubles down on that failed system by doing more of the same with even more money.
“This proposal includes funding for an adequacy gap, which calls for more than $5.1 billion in funding across the state. There’s one big problem with this idea: more than a quarter of that funding is going to just one school district in Philadelphia.
“Instead of wasting more money by spending it on a failed system, we should be expanding education choices for our children. This bill does the opposite by attacking cyber charter schools and refusing to recognize them as viable and valuable public schools.
“I support more funding for our public schools. I just want to make sure we’re spending that money wisely. Our tax dollars should be used to fund students and opportunities across the state, not wasted on one school district in the corner of our Commonwealth.”
