Grimm Krupa Refuses to be Silenced During Swearing-in Freeze Out
1/8/2025
HARRISBURG – After being ignored when requesting to speak on the House floor during yesterday’s swearing-in ceremony, Rep. Charity Grimm Krupa (R-Fayette) issued the following statement:

“I understand that yesterday was not an ordinary day on the floor of the House. There was a lot of pomp and circumstance surrounding the swearing in of our new group of state representatives. However, a very impactful vote for the future of this Commonwealth was taken using a simple ‘yay or nay’ verbal vote. I did not find that to be a sufficient means of deciding who will become the next Speaker of the House. It lacks the transparency taxpayers deserve.

“When I tried to rise to ask for a roll-call vote to ensure my vote was taken in the negative, I was ignored. I was not the only Republican who was refused the right to speak on the issue. I get that it was not an ordinary session day. However, my colleagues and I each represent more than 60,000 residents of this Commonwealth. Is it fair to them to refuse us the right to ensure our vote is recorded accurately?

“Parliamentary procedure is in place for a reason. It ensures we can properly carry out our constitutional duty to represent our districts. I don’t believe that duty should be put on hold simply because it’s a ‘special day’ on the House floor.”
