Grimm Krupa: Nearly $10 Million Awarded to Projects in Fayette County

October 15, 2025

SMITHFIELD – Rep. Charity Grimm Krupa (R-Fayette) announced the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) awarded $9.9 million in grants and low-interest loans for two projects in Fayette County.

The first project is for Pennsylvania American Water Company’s replacement of approximately 389 lead service lines at locations approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection in the City of Uniontown, North Union Township and South Union Township. PENNVEST approved a grant of $2.9 million and a low-interest loan of $2.4 million.

The second project is for the borough of Masontown’s work to install exterior meter pits and replace 1,225 water meters at all service connections. This will reduce water loss within the borough from the service connection to the customer water meters, which are currently located in the homes. PENNVEST approved a grant of $975,000 and a low-interest loan of $3.5 million.

“This is important work that needs doing, but these are expensive jobs,” Grimm Krupa said. “The funding from PENNVEST will make sure these lead service lines can be replaced with something much safer, and help our communities cut back on wasted water, in a timely manner.”

PENNVEST, established in 1988, funds the design and construction of drinking water, wastewater and stormwater projects across Pennsylvania.
