Grimm Krupa: Election Errors in Fayette County Cannot Be Excused, Dismissed or Ignored

November 5, 2025

SMITHFIELD – Rep. Charity Grimm Krupa (R-Fayette) issued this statement following reports of multiple issues at the polls in Fayette County yesterday:

“Yesterday, Pennsylvanians exercised the most fundamental right that our system of self-government recognizes — the right to vote.

“Every ballot is the means by which each citizen exercises sovereignty — the power to consent to, or to withhold consent from, government. It is how the people of our Commonwealth shape our future, hold power accountable and protect the God-given, unalienable rights that the United States Constitution and the Pennsylvania Constitution are written to secure.

“The right to vote is not a courtesy government extends to the people — it is a fundamental right, protected from government by law.

“For that reason, what occurred yesterday in Fayette County is offensive, unacceptable and cannot be shrugged off as a mere ‘technical mistake.’

Voters were prevented, delayed or discouraged from exercising their constitutional right to vote due to multiple errors:

   • The Pennsylvania Department of State appears to have transferred the 2024 statewide voter file — instead of the 2025 file — for the electronic pollbooks in Fayette County. This resulted in certain eligible voters being improperly flagged or unable to be processed.

   • At certain precincts, scanners were not functioning, requiring ballots to be manually deposited into ballot boxes.

   • Printed ballots contained unclear or erroneous instructions, forcing voters to question whether their votes would be counted correctly.

“These issues are not ‘minor.’ They undermine confidence in the voting process. They silence voices. They directly affect the people I represent.

“I intend to pursue answers. I will be researching, requesting records, investigating where these errors originated — and whether they were intentional acts or negligent oversight.

“I will work with my fellow lawmakers in Harrisburg to ensure that legislation, accountability and safeguards are put in place, so this never happens again.

“The people of the 51st District — and every voter in Pennsylvania — deserve elections that are secure, accurate, transparent and reliable. Anything less is a violation of trust.

“Every legal voter must be able to vote — and have confidence that their vote counts exactly as they intended.

“We owe the people nothing less.”
