Defending Our Daughters: Make the Promise

January 7, 2026

HARRISBURG – Continuing her unwavering advocacy for fairness, safety and common sense in women’s sports, Rep. Charity Grimm Krupa (R-Fayette) is calling on Pennsylvanians to join the “Defending Our Daughters” campaign and stand up for the Commonwealth’s female athletes.

All Pennsylvanians are invited to sign the “I Believe” promise as a public declaration that fairness still matters, women’s sports deserve protection, and daughters are worth defending—and to send a clear message to state leaders that Pennsylvanians expect action, not excuses.

“Women and girls deserve a safe, fair and equal playing field. They deserve the opportunity to compete against other females, to win games and championships honestly, to earn scholarships based on merit, and to have private locker rooms and changing spaces where they are not forced to undress or shower in the presence of males,” Grimm Krupa said.

“Allowing males to compete in girls’ sports does more than undermine competition. It reverses more than 50 years of hard-fought progress for women. Generations of women fought for equal opportunity, for recognition, and for the right to compete on a level playing field. Those victories should not be erased by ideology or political convenience,” she continued.

“This promise is also a call to action. Protecting female athletes is not someone else’s responsibility. It belongs to each of us, and especially to those entrusted with leadership. This is not a moment to sit on the sidelines; it is a moment to stand up.

“A society is judged by how it protects its children,” Grimm Krupa concluded. “Today, too many girls are being told their privacy doesn’t matter, their safety doesn’t matter and fairness no longer matters. I reject that. Our daughters deserve better, and it is our duty to get off the sidelines and defend them.”

The “I Believe” promise is available online for people to sign at defendingdaughters.com. Hard copies are also available in Grimm Krupa’s district office, located at 3089 Morgantown Road in Smithfield. Signed promises will be shared with Gov. Josh Shapiro and House leaders to demonstrate the growing demand for decisive action this year.

Despite widespread public support, House Democratic leadership has repeatedly blocked votes on legislation to protect women’s sports. Senate Bill 9, which passed the Senate with bipartisan support in May, was initially and appropriately referred to the House Education Committee. However, to avoid a discharge resolution and a full House vote, the bill was re-referred first to the Health Committee and then re-referred to the Judiciary Committee where it now sits.

Similarly, House Bills 158 and 1849 were initially referred to the Education Committee before being re-referred to Judiciary in December; again, a procedural maneuver designed to prevent a vote.

“Delay can be used to study an issue, or it can be used to bury it,” Grimm Krupa added. “Protecting female athletes should unite us. Leadership should not fear a vote, and Pennsylvanians should not accept silence when our daughters’ rights are on the line.”
