Discussion with Nadara on Potential Data Center and Power Development in Springhill Township
Today I met virtually with representatives from Nadara, an independent power producer (IPP), at their request, regarding a potential future power and data center development project in Springhill Township near the Gans area.
Participating in the meeting were Nadara Vice President John Lichtenberger, Director of Development Joe Cottle, and Senior Development Manager Paul Carlson. According to the company, they have entered into an agreement with Fay-Penn Economic Development Council concerning more than 800 acres in Springhill Township and are seeking a data center development partner for the site.
I want residents to know that I was unaware of this proposed project until today’s meeting.
Because this proposal could have major impacts on our local communities, infrastructure, farmland, utilities, emergency services, and quality of life, I requested permission to record the meeting so residents can hear the discussion directly for themselves. Nadara agreed, and in the interest of transparency, I am sharing the nearly hour-long conversation here and will also make it available on my website.
During the meeting, I asked numerous questions regarding:
• power generation and grid impacts.
• water usage and cooling systems.
• emergency management preparedness.
• traffic and infrastructure impacts.
• farmland preservation.
• jobs and economic impact.
• environmental concerns.
• site selection and long-term plans.
While many of my questions were not able to be fully answered at this stage of the process, I do appreciate the representatives taking the time to meet with me and begin this conversation.
Nadara also provided the following email as a community contact for questions or comments from residents:
laurel.highlands@nadara.com
As always, I will continue working to gather information, ask questions, and keep the public informed every step of the way.
